Students in the Finland Exchange Program propagated Black Willow cuttings from a "Champion" Black Willow in Traverse City. This species is important to our area because it filters mercury and pesticides out of water. Students in LPS AP Environmental continue to care for the plants in class as they begin to take root and sprout. The hope is to have 100 willow saplings to plant in our region.

The program is currently looking for suitable planting locations for our sprouts. Please, contact Jenifer Zywicki jzywicki@lelandschool.com if you are property owner near water and are interested in planting one or more saplings.
