Parent Letter

Good afternoon,

As we get ready to pause and enjoy winter break, please join us in celebrating
our school community and all the wonderful successes of our students and staff so
far this year. We have enjoyed a peaceful school year which has been just lovely and
we have much to be grateful for. Students are engaged in some wonderful activities,
and their learning and achievements have made us so proud. Our staff is working
hard to ensure that every student is challenged, cared for, and honored. Please take
a moment to reflect on some highlight points of pride:

○ Our elementary kids participated in a Lego League robotics competition.
Middle and high school students will compete this winter season as well

○ Our theater students’ production of Little Shop of Horrors, the Broadway
review, and the holiday concert were huge successes

○ The volleyball team won districts and regionals, quarterfinals, semi-finals, and
competed in the state final game

○ The boy's soccer team won districts, and regionals, and made a state tournament
run competing in the state semi-final game

○ Both the boys and girls cross country teams made state appearances with
several students being named all-state and academic all-state honorees

○ Both middle school and elementary students are learning music on
instruments - the kazoo and ukulele so far with more to come

○ We received AP Honor Roll recognition for our successful Advanced
Placement program

○ We continue to receive national recognition as a US News and World Report
Best School

○ We hosted students and teachers from Finland as part of a forestry project
and our participating students will go to Finland this spring

○ We have launched and are implementing four goals from our District's Strategic
Plan

○ Our PTO group is officially launched and generously engaged in a variety of
activities to support our staff and school

○ The Leland Education Foundation continues to generously support our
teachers with grants to enrich classroom programs

○ Students have taken many field trips already including a trip to Art Prize,
college visits, overnight camping trips, and various day trips

○ Launched free access to all sporting events with donations supporting our
Comet Legacy Fund

○ Launched a new website and communication system which includes an easy
to use the school APP, translation features, and upgrade texting and email
features

As you can see, we’ve been busy and there is something for everyone going
on. To read more about the great things happening and to find more opportunities,
please check out our Comet Update each week. You can also bookmark our
webpage or follow us on Instagram.

Additionally, I’ve started a once-a-month “Coffee with the Superintendent”
opportunity if you can make it. That’s a great place to ask questions and get
clarifying information. The next one is on January 5th, at 8:30 am. If the morning doesn’t
work for you, please call anytime for an appointment. I’m always happy to meet.

Please enjoy a restful, happy, and peaceful winter break, and cheers for a
happy, healthy New Year! We will look forward to seeing everyone back on
Wednesday, January 3, 2024!

Warmly,
Stephanie
