LELAND PUBLIC SCHOOL

THE LELAND DIFFERENCE

Choosing Leland Public School means joining a vibrant K–12 community where small class sizes and personal connections meet world-class academic standards. Our single-building school, nestled in the heart of the village of Leland along the Lake Michigan shoreline, fosters an environment where every child is known, supported, and inspired.

A Tradition of Excellence

Leland Public School is consistently recognized as one of the premier educational institutions in the state.

  • Top-Tier Ranking: We are ranked #8 among Michigan high schools by U.S. News & World Report.
  • IB World School: We are an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme school, providing a global framework for our K–5 students that emphasizes inquiry-based learning and critical thinking.
  • Dedicated Faculty: Our teachers are community-connected professionals who participate in ongoing training and collaborate regularly to ensure an exceptional student experience.

The "Leland Experience": Beyond the Classroom

Education at Leland extends far beyond traditional desk work through our signature experiential learning model.

  • Hands-On Learning: Elementary school students visit our local community and the region beyond for authentic learning experiences.
  • Building Independence: Middle schoolers participate in overnight camp traditions and urban trips to Michigan cities to build self-reliance and cultural awareness.
  • Global Perspectives: Leland students build on their International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme to continue exploring global regions, cultures, languages, and customs. At the High School level, our World Learning Club offers opportunities for international travel and on-site immersive experiences.
  • Shared Milestones: Grade-level traditions and group trips give students memorable, shared experiences that build strong bonds across every stage of their Leland journey

Tailored Pathways for Every Student

We offer the robust options of a larger institution while maintaining the individualized support of a small village school.

  • College Readiness: Students have access to at least 10 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, ranging from Calculus and Chemistry to Literature and Psychology.
  • Hands-On Career Training: Through the Northwest Education Services Career Tech Center (CTC), students can gain professional skills in fields like Engineering, Culinary Arts, Welding, and Health Sciences.
  • Diverse Electives: Our curriculum includes dynamic opportunities in STEM (Robotics and MakerLab), Arts (Visual Arts, Theater and Honors Chorus), and modern business (Marketing and Personal Finance).

A Supportive, Safe Environment

Our "under one roof" model ensures a seamless transition through every developmental stage.

  • Small Class Sizes: Our classes are intentionally designed to be small, allowing for personal connections and ongoing student attention throughout the day.
  • Academic Support: We meet the needs of every learner through differentiated instruction, targeted interventions, enrichment opportunities, and personalized support.
  • Social-Emotional Support: We nurture the whole child by providing social-emotional learning, counseling services, mentoring, and meaningful connections with caring adults.
  • Community Partnerships: Our students thrive thanks to a passionate network of parents, alumni, and local volunteers who remain deeply involved in school success.
