Leland Robotics Stay Tuned ...

Welcome to Leland Robotics & Coding!

We welcome everyone who has interests in design, robotics, engineering, arts, and math and wants to be part of a team.

Every level of robotics helps every other level, whether a high school senior listens in to an elementary innovation project or a middle school student asks our mentors how to make something work the way they want it to.

We encourage parents and family, community and visitors to get in touch and see how we can make amazing opportunities for our students.

If you are interested in something and don't see it here, ask us! Like drone racing. Or outdoor robotics. Or skits. Or pudgy dragons.

FIRST Robotics Challenge

(High School)

Kick off and Game Reveal January 10th.

Team building, recruiting, and sponsorships.

FIRST® Robotics Competition teams design, program, and build a robot starting with a standard kit of parts and common set of rules to play in a themed head-to-head challenge. We also build a brand, develop community partnerships for support, and work to promote STEAM in our local community.

Because our programs are More Than Robots®, FIRST participants are guided by a signature set of Core Values to conduct research, fundraise, design, build, and showcase their achievements. Our thrilling, sports-like challenges build their self-confidence and collaborative problem-solving skills and have a proven and lasting impact on STEAM learning and interest. Our participants and alumni gain access to education and career discovery opportunities, connections to exclusive scholarships and employers, and a place in the FIRST community for life.

Team 9568 AstroBots take on Rebuilt-- revealed at Kick-Off on January 10th 2026 worldwide at noon-- to design, build, code, and drive a robot that will compete in March.

From Zero to Robot in 55 days or less.

FIRST Tech Challenge

(Middle School)

Starting September 6, 2025FIRST® Tech Challenge teams will investigate the power of the world’s artifacts and unlock mysteries in a new challenge, DECODE™ presented by RTX.

Team 25096 is back for more! FIRST Tech Challenge is the premier middle school sport where teams of students, guided by mentors, design, and build 18”x18” robots to compete in a FIRST designed game in a contest of ingenuity and innovation to explore the ocean depths with Decode. The really cool thing about FIRST Tech Challenge is all skill levels are welcomed and needed, technical or non-technical. Student and adult team members are encouraged to bring any skills they already have, like coding, electronics, metalworking, graphic design, web creation, public speaking, videography, and more. Adult coaches guide students as they gain skills and confidence in a supportive, inclusive environment.

FIRST LEGO League Challenge

(Upper Elementary)

Starting August 5th, 2025, get ready to dig deep into history as this year’s UNEARTHED robot game takes you on an exciting archaeological adventure. Your team will explore a dig site, carefully excavating artifacts hidden beneath layers of rock and soil and uncovering clues that reveal stories of past civilizations.

Teams 64210 and 69403 aim to dive in with the FIRST Lego League Challenge Unearthed. Weekly team meetings will encourage upper elementary students to take on all of the undersea challenges of this year’s game! Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game.

FIRST LEGO League Explore

(Early Elementary)

Come to Open Robotics and take part in the fun next fall!

We are looking for support and volunteers to help us bring K-12 robotics to Leland with FIRST Lego League Explore. In Explore, teams of students in Kindergarten through third grade focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education SPIKE Essential.

The FIRST Core Values are fundamental to FIRST and unique to its programs. They emphasize friendly sportsmanship, respect for the contributions of others, teamwork, learning, and community involvement and are part of our commitment to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
